How to deal with stress when facing foreclosure

If you are facing foreclosure, more than likely stress and anxiety are becoming a big part of your everyday life. Feelings of anger, frustration, and sadness can become overwhelming.

It is impossible to live without at least a minimum amount of stress, but extreme stress takes its toll on your body. Extreme stress leads to high blood pressure and can increase the danger of heart attacks. That is why it is imperative that you find ways to manage your stress for the sake of your health.

There are many different ways to manage your stress and these are just a few techniques that will help you calm yourself down and keep your stress at a manageable level.

  1. Meditation is an effective way for you to reset your body to a calm and relaxed state and allows your body time to repair itself. There are many different ways to meditate and it takes practice. Meditation involves mainly sitting in a relaxed position and clearing your mind. It’s helpful to have 5-20 minutes available for you to do this by yourself. You can learn effective meditation techniques from a book or by doing research on the internet.
  2. Exercise is another effective way to manage your stress. Physical activity can take your mind off of your problems and redirect it to the activity at hand. High energy exercises like weight lifting, boxing, or martial arts can help release unhealthy stress while allowing your body to stay healthy.
  3. Keeping a Journal is a useful tool in managing stress. Putting your thoughts on paper and analyzing your situation may assist you with coming up with solutions to your issues. By journaling, you can process your emotions fully while coming to understand them better. This is a cost effective way to manage your stress as well.
  4. Get enough sleep. The typical adult needs 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Sleep allows your body to recuperate and restores your energy level. If you do not sleep well then your body feeds off of stress to stay active and alert.
  5. Make sure you are maintaining a healthy diet. Eating healthy will help reduce stress. Not only will you feel better about yourself, you will be healthier as well.
  6. It is important to remember that while facing foreclosure on your home will have a significant impact on your life, that you need to stay positive and focus on the most important thing and that is YOU! Try to maintain a positive attitude and focus on all of the positive things you have in your life. Get a support system in place to help cope with the reality of the situation and embrace your loved ones and know that in the end you will pull through the situation no matter how difficult it might be.
